03 Young People in Our Industry

This month on the Northern Logger Podcast, we are talking to the youngest members of our industry to find out more about their daily challenges and what the future of the industry holds. All of our guests this month are 29 year old and younger.

Many industry veterans will say that this is an aging industry. While there’s some truth to that, there are still plenty of passionate young timber harvesters pursuing a career. Many have figured out how to start their own businesses, whether they be fully mechanized or chainsaw and skidder operations.

02 E-Logs: On every truckers' mind

It's hard to find a trucker or fleet owner that has a rose-colored view of new national E-Log requirements. We hear from both, as a USDOT official that reckons with this feedback.

Also, we hear a comparison between the United States and Canada's E-Log requirements. All this and MORE!

01 Harvest Notification in the Northeast

Harvest notification could seem like a small clerical task to some, but in this podcast we hear from industry and regulatory experts throughout the region that regulation on harvest notification can have a big impact.

A new harvest notification requirement is likely to pass in New York state as a part of the 2018 Governor Budget Proposal. For more information on the Empire Forest For the Future proposal, click here.

Along with the impending changes in New York, we address harvest notification in the region at large. Your community members speak on how their state handles notification and they answer such questions as: Is it nuisance or necessary? Do market industry statistics outweigh the paperwork? Does regulation benefit good actors or bad actors? All this and MORE.
